The History of East Street Pub Co
Our Journey as a Family-Run Pub Group in South Devon
What began as a small collection of pubs and eateries on East Street in Newton Abbot has grown into an independent pub group proudly based across South Devon. Founded on traditional values and a passion for warm hospitality, East Street Pub Co. is built on great service, characterful locations and a sense of community that keeps locals coming back time and time again.
Where it all started
Our story began on East Street in Newton Abbot with the charming Union Inn, a true local favourite. Over time, our reputation for warm hospitality grew, and so we opened Rio Grande and Olive just around the corner.
As the business evolved, we opened new locations in Paignton and Teignmouth, extending our roots across South Devon. In 2019, Rio Grande was refurbished and reopened as Twelve Twenty, its name inspired by the year Newton Abbot’s historic clock tower was built. Olive and The Union Inn later made way for new ventures, but they played an important part in shaping who we are today.
Where we are now
Today, East Street Pub Co has grown into a family of independent venues across South Devon, each with its own personality but all sharing the same values of quality, care and community.
Our portfolio now includes VIVA, our lively themed activity site in Torquay, and the beautifully restored The Yacht, also in Torquay. In Paignton and Teignmouth, we’ve created welcoming spaces for families, friends and locals to enjoy great food, good company and genuine hospitality. We’ve also returned to our roots with The Bell Inn in Kingsteignton, a traditional pub full of character and charm at the heart of its local community.
Every venue in the East Street Pub Co family offers something a little different. Our approach never changes. We’re proud to serve great food and drink, offer excellent service, and create spaces people return to again and again.
